My first successfully won project on Freelancer.com came through a packaging design contest for a TowBall product, hosted by an Australian client, David B. More than 30 participants entered the contest, including a submission from a designer in India who had already received a five-star rating from the client.
I created the packaging design according to the client's brief and developed my own 3D mockup using Blender. Instead of showing an empty package, I placed the TowBall product inside it to make the final presentation easier for the client to evaluate. This additional level of detail became one of the key differentiators from the other submissions.
The submission was sent in mid-June 2024 and received a five-star rating from the client, putting it in direct competition with the submission that had already taken the lead. After a brief revision process, I won the contest with a prize of AUD 100, along with the first five-star review on my Freelancer.com profile.
The win led to a second contest from the same client, this time to create a mockup of a storage container for the TowBall packaging. This follow-up project strengthened the working relationship with the client and eventually led to several additional design projects.
